Lil Yachty is coming to Brockport

by Lou Venditti

Lil Yachty is coming to the College at Brockport for the Brockport Student Government Spring Concert. Lil Yachty, who released his second studio album “Lil Boat 2” on March 8, will be coming to the SERC Field House on April 19 at 9 p.m.

Lil Yachty will be the first rapper tapped to come to the college since Fetty Wap in 2016. Fetty Wap’s concert, which was canceled, was a sell out, which is what prompts Graesser to believe it will be similar this year.

“We’re expecting a large turnout based off…the social media attention that the announcement got and the history of rap artists at the concert,” BSG Activities Director Alexis Graesser said.

Despite his ability to draw a crowd, Lil Yachty was not the only choice for the spring concert, according to Graesser. BSG worked with Concert Ideas, a booking agency specifically aimed to help colleges reel in performers for events. BSG forwards the budget and dates to Concert Ideas, who then talk to the agents of artists who they feel are suitable for the college.

“[Concert Ideas] got back to us with two names,” Graesser said. “We originally put a bid in for Khalid, but he was  very expensive. We were going to have to pull budgets from other places and it really wasn’t ideal.”

Graesser mentioned there was another artist that BSG would have put a bid in on, however, University Police did not permit them to place the bid.

“We got clearance to bid Lil Yachty because we heard he had availability on our date and he was in our price range,” Grasser said. “Rappers have done well at this college before so we saw it as an opportunity to hopefully sell out the venue and provide a good spring concert.”

Tickets for the spring concert are on sale now. Student tickets cost $10 and guest tickets cost $25.
